The department has a faculty comprising of five members four of whom hold PhDs. (Dr Siraj Ahmad is the present Head of the Department.

 The faculty specializations include: study of super cooled liquids, synthesis and characterization of inorganic complexes/ natural products, thermal, kinetics & mechanistic studies and organic chemistry. 

The department has well established labs (including a full fledged glass blowing unit) catering to the undergraduate needs and consultancy. The department has produced 15 PhD and 20 M. Phil scholars and published more than 100 papers and reviews in reputed national and international journals. The department undertakes consultancy in testing of water, cement, bleaching powder, insecticides, oils, coal, etc.

The Department is planning to have a P.G. programme in Applied Chemistry and a Polymer Research and Development Center in the near future.
