NIT Srinagar is the oldest seat of technical
education in the J & K state with the establishment of Civil
Engineering Department right at the inception of Institute in 1960.During
past forty years the department of Civil Engineering has played a vital
role in the spectrum of Design, Development, Research and extension
services through technical education.
Catering to the broad spectrum of academic needs is a capable faculty of 23 teachers, among which are PhDs from IITs and abroad. Blossoming in this rich environment students are becoming capable engineers. The percentage of students absorbed into the field through campus selection has gone up . Many are opting for higher studies and are bringing laurels to the Institute with top GATE scores. The department is itself running a P. G. course in Water Resource Engineering. The consultancy center with its technical services reinforces the fact that the hub of creative and inspired engineering lies here.
The department offers B. Tech and M. Tech programs. Doctoral research is offered in the following areas.
